Mumbai: Carnelian Mutual Fund will launch the Carnelian Small Cap Fund, an open-ended equity scheme predominantly investing in small-cap stocks. The New Fund Offer (NFO) opens on October 16, 2026 and closes on October 30, 2026.

The fund will follow a focused, research-led investment approach guided by Carnelian’s philosophy of Clarity, Conviction and Compounding. It will seek to identify businesses with sustainable earnings growth, durable competitive advantages and attractive risk-reward characteristics, while remaining disciplined on valuations.

The scheme will have a cap of ₹5,000 crore, subject to the terms specified in its offer documents. The cap is intended to preserve agility in portfolio construction and enable the investment team to remain selective as the fund grows, prioritizing investment opportunities over asset gathering.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Vikas Khemani, Founder & Chairman, Carnelian Asset Management & Advisors (Sponsors of Carnelian MF), said “Our investment philosophy of Carnelian as a group rests on three principles: clarity in understanding businesses, conviction in our investment decisions and a long-term perspective on compounding. Our approach combines fundamental research, forensic financial analysis and ground-level validation to evaluate both potential upside and risks The objective is to identify businesses where fundamentals and valuations support a compelling investment case.”

Mr. Rajkumar Dhiman, CEO, Carnelian Mutual Fund, said, "Small-cap investing offers a broad opportunity set, but demands discipline in evaluating businesses and constructing portfolios. Our structured process combines quantitative screening, forensic diligence and ground-level assessment of management and business fundamentals. We believe alpha, not AUM, is what ultimately matters to investors. The cap keeps the portfolio nimble and our process disciplined as the scheme grows. Our focus is on generating alpha from the quality of opportunities we identify, not on the size of the assets we gather.”

The fund aims to generate long-term capital appreciation by investing predominantly in equity and equity-related securities of small-cap companies, combining fundamental analysis with an assessment of business quality, corporate governance, earnings potential and valuations.

The scheme plans to build a focused portfolio of approximately 30-50 companies from an initial universe of more than 1,000 stocks. Its process incorporates the proprietary CLEAR framework, which examines cash flows, liabilities, earnings quality, asset quality and related-party transactions.

This is complemented by the CONNECT framework, which involves ground-level assessments of management and other business stakeholders.

The portfolio will draw on three categories of opportunities: businesses with the potential for accelerated earnings growth and valuation re-rating, companies with durable competitive advantages and strong cash flows, and select opportunistic investments.
