Apollo Hospitals Enters Guinness World Records: 61,221 Citizens Pledge to Learn CPR

Mumbai: Is Navi Mumbai ready to save a life? The city answered with a resounding yes.

In a remarkable display of community preparedness, 61,221 people pledged to learn CPR in just 30 days as part of Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai's "My Hands Are Ready" campaign, officially setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for 'Most pledges received to learn CPR in one month.

The campaign, held from July 8 to August 7, 2026, had initially aimed for 50,000 pledges. It surpassed the target by over 11,000, uniting more than 120 schools, colleges, workplaces and community organisations across Navi Mumbai.

The record was formally recognized at a special event attended by Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, and actor Karisma Kapoor.

"For ten years, Navi Mumbai has honoured us with its trust. Today, more than 61,000 people have pledged to learn CPR, reminding us of the extraordinary power of a community united by a shared purpose," said Dr. Preetha Reddy. "There can be no greater way to honour that trust than to empower millions more hands to be ready to save a life."

Why This Matters

The initiative comes ahead of World Heart Day 2026, themed "United for Every Heartbeat," and addresses a critical gap in India. Over 700,000 Indians die of sudden cardiac arrest each year, yet studies show only 1.3% to 9.8% of out-of-hospital victims receive bystander CPR. Survival rate after discharge remains below 2-3%.

"When someone's heart stops, the first person on the scene is often not a doctor, but a family member or passer-by. The ability to start CPR in those first minutes can make all the difference," said Dr. Nitin Jagasia, Regional Director - Emergency, Western Region, Apollo Hospitals.

Mr. Arunesh Punetha, Regional CEO - Western Region, added, "We want to take this message beyond Navi Mumbai. This is more than a campaign - it is a commitment to every life and every family in India."

With "My Hands Are Ready," Apollo aims to transform ordinary citizens from bystanders into first responders.
