ISKCON GEV Celebrates Native Food Day, Launches Palghar Thall

Posted by Niilesh waghela

Palghar: ISKCON's Govardhan Ecovillage (GEV) in Palghar recently hosted a heartwarming celebration of Native Food Day, unveiling the Palghar Thali, a culinary masterpiece that honors the region's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.

The event was a testament to the power of food in bringing people together and promoting sustainable living.

The Palghar Thali is more than just a meal; it's a journey through the flavors and traditions of the region. With locally sourced ingredients and age-old recipes, the thali showcased the best of Palghar's culinary offerings.

From the earthy flavors of millets to the sweetness of local fruits, every bite was a celebration of the region's gastronomic diversity.

The event was graced by HH Radhanath Swami, Founder of Govardhan Ecovillage, and attended by global author Jay Shetty's wife Radhi Devlukia Shetty, a renowned plant-based culinary expert. Jay Shetty, known for his books, podcasts, and social media presence, has been a strong advocate of conscious and sustainable living.

Radhi Shetty, through her culinary and wellness platforms, has consistently promoted natural, traditional, and holistic food practices that align closely with the vision of Native Food Matters.

"Reconnecting with India's native food heritage is the need of the hour," said Gauranga Das, Director of GEV. "The Native Food Matters initiative aims to revive traditional food knowledge and promote a conscious food system that's healthier and environmentally responsible."

The Native Food Matters initiative is a step towards preserving India's rich culinary heritage and promoting sustainable food practices. With knowledge partners like Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Symbiosis School of Culinary Arts and Nutritional Sciences, GEV is working to develop a holistic approach that integrates culinary heritage, community participation, and policy-level thinking.

As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change, food insecurity, and lifestyle diseases, initiatives like Native Food Matters offer a beacon of hope. By embracing traditional food wisdom and promoting sustainable practices, we can create a healthier, more equitable, and environmentally conscious food system.
