1,000+ Coaching Classes Oppose New Rules, seek Fair Regulation

Mumbai: Over 1,000 coaching class owners from across Maharashtra have united to oppose what they call "impractical and excessively stringent" provisions proposed to regulate coaching classes in the state.
The resolution was passed at 'Sankalp & Samman', a Teachers' Day celebration organised by the Maharashtra Class Owners' Association (MCOA) in Mumbai on Friday. The event also felicitated 16 veteran educators, including ex-president Prof. Sachin Karnavat, for over 30 years of service.
Padma Shri Dr. Tatyarao Lahane was Chief Guest, while educator Prof. Sanjay Appan, who has 3 million+ followers, was Guest of Honour.
The Core Demand
Nine coaching associations, representing nearly 98,000 class owners in Maharashtra, will now make a joint representation to the Chief Minister and Education Minister.
Their stand: They support responsible, student-centric regulation, but want meaningful consultation before rules are finalised.
"We are not against regulation. We are against regulation without adequate consultation. A framework affecting thousands of educators and lakhs of students must be practical, balanced and created with stakeholder participation," the association said.
The fraternity said small and medium-sized classes will be hit hardest by the proposed provisions.
The associations will first pursue dialogue. If concerns are not addressed, they will explore appropriate legal remedies, they said.
