Kanpur: In a strong endorsement of India’s growing private defence manufacturing ecosystem, Lt General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Central Command, visited key defence production facilities in Kanpur, including MKU Industries, Adani Defence & Aerospace Ltd and Lohia Aerospace Systems Pvt Ltd.

The visit reflects the Indian Army’s continued emphasis on strengthening indigenous defence capabilities and accelerating technological advancement under the broader national objective of self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

During the visit, the Army Commander interacted with senior management teams and reviewed a range of advanced products and technologies being developed to meet evolving operational requirements. These included cutting-edge protective systems, aerospace components, advanced materials and next-generation defence solutions aimed at enhancing battlefield readiness.

Industry representatives presented updates on ongoing research and development initiatives, manufacturing capabilities and supply chain efficiencies. The discussions focused on aligning production timelines and quality benchmarks with the Army’s mission-critical requirements.

Lt General Sengupta highlighted the importance of deeper collaboration between the Armed Forces and domestic industry players to reduce import dependency and build resilient defence supply chains. He stressed that innovation, adaptability and sustained investment in research and emerging technologies will be key to achieving long-term strategic autonomy.

The visit comes at a time when India is actively promoting private sector participation in defence production, supported by policy reforms, higher budgetary allocations for domestic procurement and increased focus on indigenous design and development.

By engaging directly with private manufacturers, the Army leadership signalled its intent to foster closer industry partnerships and ensure that operational preparedness is backed by high-quality, locally produced equipment. The interaction reaffirmed a shared commitment between the military and industry to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing base in line with national security priorities.
