SC Scraps 25-Year Condition for ITAT Technical Members

The Supreme Court has scrapped the 25-year experience requirement for CAs to become Technical Members in ITAT and other tribunals! 

This landmark decision recognizes the expertise and competence of Chartered Accountants, opening up new opportunities for them to contribute to the field. A huge relief for CAs, and a testament to their professional capabilities!

The court's ruling is being hailed as a significant victory for the CA community, as it acknowledges their skills and expertise in taxation and financial matters. The earlier requirement, which pushed eligibility beyond age 50, has been deemed arbitrary and unconstitutional. This decision brings parity with advocates, who had similar restrictions struck down earlier.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has welcomed the decision, stating that it will enable CAs to contribute to the judiciary and tribunals at a younger age, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise.
